Farewell, My last day in Thailand
Thailand day 11
It’s my last day here in Thailand and its dedicated to preparing for my next stop. On the agenda is shopping! I need clothes for my next destination. But first, SPA DAY!
Ive never been to a spa before so this is a completely new experience.
Just within the center of town my taxi pulls to tiny wooden building surprising surrounded by nothing but quiet. I’m greeted and told to remove my shoes and replace them with straw flip flops. Once inside I’m given a sheet to fill out any specific details I want to be apart of my Japanese onsen bath and massage. I choose a bath gel that is meant to smooth and soften the skin; accompanied with a medium massage that focuses on my feet and shoulders.
Minutes later I’m served green tea and a yukata to change into. I’m lead to a changing room where I’m assigned a locker to store my belongings and told to remove my clothing. After changing I’m escorted to a private room with a large wooden bathtub, two mini stools, towels and water. It’s lit by a large window that brings in the perfect amount of sunlight and gives you a tranquil view of bamboo plant garden.
Steam is raising from the bathtub and a shower head and faucet are stationed right next to it. I have 40 minutes to enjoy this bath and step into complete relaxation.
The instructions are to take a quick shower, then place your feet in the tub sitting on the edge until your body is fully adjusted to the temperature. I usually shower in water poured by satan himself so I get right in.
Next you are to soak for up to 7 or 10 minutes then taking time to cool off in the shower. Repeat this three times as detailed. The entire process is so appeasing I can feel a short nap creeping up.
About 5 minutes before my time is up a light knocking on the door informing me to prepare for my massage. I get out, rinse off, and head to the lobby. I was given a cold rag to wipe any sweat away and then lead to the massage room. I then lay head down on the massage bed and it all begins.
If you recall, clueless old me chose a “medium” massage, completely forgetting that I’m tiny and easy to break. This massage although therapeutic, was still quite painful. This middle aged Asian lady was probably 60 pound heavier that me and is not only sitting on me but is digging her knees into my back while karate chapping my neck. She then proceeds to press her elbows in between my shoulder blades. I start moaning, but not from pleasure, I gotta release the pain from my body and figure out how to breathe. After about 15 minutes she instructs me to turn over, where she massages my face muscles and hairline. I then sit up where she jabs me in the underarm and continuously pokes me in the neck. At this point idk how to feel. Was I suppose to leave this session relaxed or beat up?
Following my massage I’m back to the lobby for more tea, watermelon, and sponge cake. I’m then dismissed, dressed, and ready to take on the priorities of the day.
Majority of the evening is spent trying to shop, looking for the best bargains for quality clothing and goods. Amongst my indecisiveness I come across a tattoo parlor. With a quick look inside and observing a few portfolios its tattoo time! I came to Thailand with the desire for new ink and what better day to get it than on my last. After some intense negotiating of price, I’m hyped to start the process. The tattoo artist are very young but super experienced, and great at their job. I spent about 3 hour in the parlor getting sized, inked and cleaned.
After my new ink job, a few good finds from shopping I’m ready to kiss this city goodbye.
Overall my entire trip was a new, exciting and educational series of events. I got to experience a different culture, converse with other travelers, take part in every form of transportation, and see another side of the world that I was completely ignorant too. Thailand was remarkable and its definitely a trip I would do again. Until next time Thailand “Khob khun kha”
